Description

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, is seeking a Researcher II to focus on research developing a novel dental pulp capping material to achieve pulp tissue repair while maintaining tooth vitality.

The ideal candidate will be expected to perform lab-associated activities including, but not limited to:

  • Ordering materials
  • Organizing protocols
  • Reporting progress notes
  • Conducting and depositing of lab collection
  • Maintaining tissue cultures, and performing molecular-biological assays and animal experiments within a multidisciplinary dental tissue engineering laboratory.

Candidates are expected to collaborate with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduate students, and high school students as a part of a team.

 

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals. Runs assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.
  • Collects, enters and summarizes data.
  • Monitors results; detects and reports unusual outcomes.
  • Assists in the maintenance and trouble-shooting of lab equipment and supplies.
  • Performs basic statistical data analysis.
  • Performs fundamental statistical data analysis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Salary Range:     $15.50 - $19.23 Hourly

     

    Qualifications

     

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
    • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or Biology
    • Experience with microbiology, microfabrication, soft/hard materials synthesis and characterization, stem cell biology, and molecular biology techniques
