Summary of Job Duties:
A highly motivated individual is sought for a postdoctoral position in the field of molecular nematology in Dr. Joanna Kud’s lab in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at the University of Arkansas. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge research projects aimed at understanding nematode effector biology in the context of global effector interactions.
Job duties:
• Conduct independent research in molecular nematology
• Develop and implement molecular biology and biochemistry techniques to study plant-nematode interactions
• Review scientific and applied literature to identify appropriate materials, statistical techniques, or methods applicable to the area of research.
• Collaborate with a team of researchers and contribute to the development of new research projects
• Contribute to writing reports and grant applications
• Present research findings at conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals
• Mentor and train graduate students and research staff as needed
• Maintain a well-organized and tidy laboratory, with accurate and easy to follow record-keeping, and ensuring proper functioning and required maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a related field such as plant pathology, plant science, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline
- Strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, particularly in the area of plant-pathogen interactions
- Experience in using various molecular biology tools including PCR, qPCR, and RNAseq
- Experience with plant tissue culture and generating transgenic plants
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent writing and communication skills supported by a strong publication record
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and project management skills
