About the Department
Job Summary
Responsibilities
Will have responsibility for designing, trouble shooting and performing in vitro experiments.
Will have responsibility for handling and treatment of small animals, including performing irradiations, injections/inoculations, and blood/tissue collection.
Will supervise work by technicians and undergraduate research assistants, in consultation with the principal investigator.
Will provide regular oral reports on progress to the principal investigator.
Will collect and enter data. Will assist in analyzing data, preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
Will assist with the installation, sets up and performing experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors/authors scientific research manuscripts. Provides peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts.
Collaborates on development of new research projects with academic and community-based organizations.
May present work at scientific meetings.
Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
PhD degree and/or postdoctoral training in a field relevant to research being conducted.
Experience:
Pre- and/or post-doctoral research training in related areas.
Prior experience with mice as experimental models.
Preferred Competencies
Knowledge of standard research techniques relevant to cancer research.
Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and common data analysis software.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and organizational skills.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions
Moderate physical activity which includes reaching for materials, carrying materials, safe handling and manipulation of chemicals and biological materials according to approved protocols, writing, computer use, standing at the bench, and bending at the waist/crouching to access certain pieces of equipment.
Requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, very good manual dexterity and the ability to perform fine motor tasks.
Weekend/Evening hours are occasionally needed.
