Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Dental Assistant II for the Office for Clinical Affairs within Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM).  The Dental Assistant II will support students and faculty in the patient care clinics.  Performs work related to the care, sterilization, packing, and disbursement of equipment and supplies.  Maintains all aspects of sterilization procedures related to dental Instruments and supplies associated with patient care within the various clinical operations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Issues equipment, instruments and supplies to students and faculty.
  • Performs duties relating to clinic dispensary as assigned.
  • Assists dental students chair-side in the delivery of quality oral health care.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, loaned instruments and equipment according to department policy.
  • Re-stocks equipment and supplies in the dispensary and clinic, reporting depleted items.
  • Checks returned instruments and prepares them for sterilization. 
  • Delivers and retrieves instruments from Central Sterilization according to department schedule.
  • Examines equipment to detect leaks, worn or loose parts, or other indications of disrepair, verifying that equipment functions properly.
  • Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety and environmental and infection control standards.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid Radiologic Technology license issued by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Valid American Heart Association CPR Certification.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, de-contamination, sterilization, assembly, packing and monitoring of instrumentation required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience in a dental setting with a combination of dental assisting and sterile processing.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must have the ability to lift/push/pull greater than 50 pounds.
  • Noisy, busy, clinical and sterilization area, temperature fluctuations (hot and cold).

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
