Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Specialist for The Office of Resource and Economic Development (ORED). The Office for Research’s mission is to support the research, scholarship, and creative endeavors of all Rutgers Faculty. The Office accomplishes its mission by convening with academic and research leaders, providing integrated, user-focused resources, services, and tools, and partnering with faculty is how the Office for Research pursues its core mission. As part of the Office for Research, the Business Specialist will serve as the primary point of contact for developing the department’s budget and forecasts.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Works closely with the director of financial planning and analysis and the executive director of finance and administration to ensure well-documented and efficiently run financial operations.
  • Reports to the director of financial planning and analysis.
  • Helps to set and implement the department’s annual budget calendar, plan for the preparation of the budget and forecasts.
  • Provides templates and instructions for other finance staff who will be preparing figures for the budget and forecasts.
  • Analyzes variances and actuals and prepares reports for the director of financial planning and analysis and the executive director of finance and administration.
  • Ensures standard processes for budgeting, forecasting and maintaining financial files are documented and followed consistent with a broad understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the business unit and the tasks and responsibilities of the Financial Analyst with respect to achieving business unit goals.
  • Communicates financial information in a way that’s clear to audiences with varying degrees of financial background.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good communication skills, and computer literacy.
  • Ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • An excellent understanding of accounting concepts, theories, principles, practices, and terminology.
  • Must have excellent analytical abilities and be able to identify trends in financial data.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel, independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with great attention to detail.
  • Must have demonstrated experience developing MS Excel workbooks and models and instructions for users.
  • Must have advanced Excel background (VLookup, Pivot tables and charts, model development).
  • Hands?on experience in the use of enterprise or integrated financial accounting systems, preferably Oracle, Jaeggar and Peoplesoft.
  • Skillset must include strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of relevant accounting/analytical experience in an academic/research environment.
  • Hands?on experience using Tableau.
Equipment Utilized
  • PC.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • Enterprise?wide financial accounting system.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals , if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
