JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Public Health Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral position available in the new laboratory of Cheryl Thompson, PhD, Professor, and Associate Director for Population Sciences at the Penn State Cancer Institute located in Hershey, PA.

Projects will involve the study of genetic, behavioral and/or environmental factors associated with cancer incidence and mortality.  Some particular areas of interest include environmental carcinogens, social determinants of health, genetic variation and cancer disparities. 

The lab will largely use archival human tumor tissue samples, blood samples, clinical data and lifestyle risk factor data, as well as publicly available datasets.  Depending on the interests and skill set of the post-doc, we may also measure biomarkers and/or incorporate geospatial techniques.

Candidates should be highly motivated, a keen attention to detail and following protocols, have a PhD, DrPH or equivalent, and possess a strong background in population science/epidemiology and biostatistical analysis.  Prior experience with basic laboratory techniques is desirable but not required.  The candidate should be capable of designing and analyzing experiments consistent with the broad thematic goals of the research program. The candidate should have quality publications in nationally recognized journals, be fluent in English, and interested and motivated to contribute to grant-writing and supervision of research associates and students as the laboratory expands. 

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
