Would you like to be a member of an Occupational Medical Office that is responsible for the safety and wellness of a diverse workforce that addresses the nation's most critical challenges? If so we are looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. 

 

We are seeking an Occupational Health Nurse to join the Environmental Health and Safety group. You will work alongside our dedicated Medical Director and team of highly skilled nurses. This position includes exciting opportunities for a nurse across a range of occupational health services related to preventing occupational illness and injury.

 

As an Occupational Health Nurse you will: 

  • Conduct occupational physical exams including prescreening tests (e.g., pulmonary function testing, EKG, vision screening, blood pressure, audiometric testing)
  • Perform initial medical assessments, treatments, and follow-up for occupational injuries and illnesses and guide staff to seek proper attention for non-work related medical issues
  • Actively manage Workers Compensation cases
  • Collaborate with your coworkers to organize and administrate an internal influenza vaccination program, an allergy/immunization program, and other wellness activities and initiatives
  • Coordinate occupational surveillance programs for staff working with specific chemical, biological, or radiological materials
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures to ensure alignment with Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Maryland Board of Nursing, and AAOHN
  • Provide back-up support for other EHS programmatic needs
  • Attend trainings and conferences in order to stay abreast of current best practices

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Completed a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and hold current CPR certification.
  • Hold an active license as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or Compact State.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years nursing experience in any of the following specialties: Occupational/Employee Health, Critical Care, or Emergency Medicine
  • Exhibit exemplary customer service skills and possess the ability to communicate clearly in a professional manner
  • Demonstrate proficiency with a variety of computer applications such as Electronic Health Record, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Are innovative and a critical thinker who works efficiently in an independent or collaborative environment
  • Possess the ability to initiate projects and process improvements without requiring direct oversight.
  • Have experience required for phlebotomy collection
  • Are able to adapt when needed and prioritize tasks appropriately
  • Have experience leading in-person or virtual meetings and/or trainings
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have an active Occupational Health Nurse certification (COHN or COHN-S)
  • Hold a current Occupational Hearing Conservationist certification from CAOHC (Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation)
  • Hold a current NIOSH-Approved Spirometry certificate
  • Have knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
  • Have experience with and Workers’ compensation laws and/or possess case management skills.
  • Have experience with clinical operations management in healthcare (billing, ordering, administrative, inventory, scheduling)     
  • Have experience with collaboration tools such as Box and Zoom
