Job Summary

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking an Instructor, Computer Information Systems for Las Positas College in Livermore, California.

This position reports directly to the Division Dean.

Representative Duties

1. Ability to teach introductory and advanced computer-software and applications course in computer information systems (CIS), including lectures and laboratories.

2. A commitment to encouragement of learning and enthusiastic attitude toward teaching;

3. Ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities;

4. Ability to adapt instructional techniques to online, hybrid, and Hyflex instruction.

5. Knowledge of teaching methods that include critical thinking and problem-solving strategies;

6. Commitment to assist in the development, administration, and teaching of new CIS (Computer Information Systems) software courses and programs;

7. Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in Computer Information Systems Technologies with emphasis upon software applications and its instructional programs;

8. Ability to develop curriculum in emerging areas of Computer Information Systems and collaborate with other academic disciplines to develop and support interdisciplinary programs.

9. Commitment to working successfully as a team with other Computer Studies instructors, instructional assistants, and colleagues;

10. Commitment to representation and outreach to industry and educational partners as related to program innovation and workforce development, including serving on the industry advisory board.

11. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form;

12. Ability to seek and support personal creativity and professional growth and demonstrate career objectives consistent with the mission of Las Positas College.

13. Commitment to participate in campus professional activities that may include, but are not limited to: development of curriculum and new instructional approaches, committee membership, staff meetings, and community outreach;

14. Ability to teach late afternoon, evening, weekend, hybrid and fully online, and/or off-campus classes when scheduled as part of the regular teaching assignment;

15. Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities;

16. Ability to interact successfully with others.

Minimum Education and Experience

Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience (Computer information systems software usage and installation, personal computer technology, computer applications),

OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience (Computer information systems software usage and installation, personal computer technology, computer applications)

OR equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications

Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Microsoft Office Specialist, in one or more applications.

2. Professional experiences and/or teaching experience in Microsoft office, cloud storage, computer applications, databases, web development, programming and operating systems.

3. Experience with and/or knowledge of outreach to high schools, industry, and regional community college consortiums;

4. Teaching experience keyboarding, Office apps and computer concepts.

Job Work Schedule

This position is full-time, tenure track, beginning Fall 2023. Employment will begin on or about August 10, 2023.
