Position Highlights A Postdoctoral Research Associate is sought to study virus-host metabolism interactions in the laboratory of Dr. John Purdy (www.immunobiology.arizona.edu/research/purdy-lab ). The ideal candidate is an individual with a passion for performing science creatively and rigorously and has a desire to learn virology while investigating metabolism using mass spectrometry, metabolomics, and lipidomics. Candidates must be able to work both independently and collaboratively, show strong critical thinking skills, communicate well (including writing) and be eager to perform state-of-the-art metabolic experiments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Independently perform experiments, analyze data, produce figures/summaries, and keep appropriate records of all research activities.
  • Assist in the design of experiments, development of investigational questions, and writing of papers, reports, and fellowship applications.
  • Read current scientific literature, be an active member of a team by participating in scientific discussions, lab meetings, and other scientific functions.
  • Sharing results in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in virology, immunology, biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, or related fields. 
  • Experience performing molecular biology, biochemistry, virology, metabolism, or mass spectrometry techniques.
  • Basic understanding of virus-host interactions, biochemistry, metabolism, or metabolic regulation.
Preferred Qualifications * Experience or interest with tissue culture work and experimental work in virology or metabolism.
* Experience or interest in virology, metabolism, or mass spectrometry (e.g., lipidomics, metabolomics, or proteomics).
* Experience or interest working with a mass spectrometer or handling MS/MS datasets.
