Required Qualification (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Nephrology, Cell Biology or closely related field. Experience with molecular biology, cell culture and animal handling techniques.

Preferred Qualification:
Experience with kidney disease models, RNA biology, transcriptomics, high throughput data analysis, drafting manuscripts. Basic knowledge of research-oriented computer programs.

Brief Description of Duties:
We are currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with strong experimental and analytical skills to work within the lab of Dr. Shipra Agrawal in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Stony Brook University School of Medicine . Our lab research is focused on identifying and understanding the mechanisms and molecular pathways of podocyte and kidney injury with an aim of developing novel treatments for glomerular nephropathies. Within this objective, we are studying the nuclear receptor PPARg and RNA-mediated mechanisms such as miRNA functions and roles of alternative splicing and polyadenylation of mRNAs in podocyte and kidney biology. We employ basic and translational research to identify the targets and develop new treatment strategies. We use diverse approaches, including molecular and cellular biology techniques, cell and tissue culture models, animal (mice and rat) models, patient samples, single cell RNA sequencing, bioinformatics analyses, etc. The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

  • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of nephrology, tissue culture, molecular biology and animal models of glomerular disease.
  • Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

Special Notes:
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
