Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Chemistry Department is one of the largest and most complex departments in the Division of Academic Affairs. There are 43 faculty members, 44 SHRA and EHRA staff positions, 260 graduate students, 33 postdoctoral research associates, 700 undergraduate majors, and an annual total of approximately 10,000 registrations by all students in classroom and laboratory courses. The Department is housed in five buildings with over 580,000 sq. feet of space. The faculty participate in teaching assignments which involve an average of 200 students per faculty member per semester. The majority of faculty are research active and supervise graduate students working on their Masters or Ph.D. degrees, undergraduate students carrying out independent research and honors programs, research technicians and postdoctoral research associates. Primarily the research is funded by federal and private agencies such as NSF, NIH, Army, Navy, DOE, PRF and involves expenditures of more than nineteen million dollars annually. A total of over thirty-two million dollars from all sources is expended annually in the Department.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to resided within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. 
The position is in the Chemistry Department within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Grant Manager is a key member of the chemistry department’s accounting team, comprised of three grant managers who report to the accounting manager. This position will manage a portfolio of research projects for active research faculty of approximately $15 million by performing the following tasks: 
* Pre-award: Coordinate research proposal applications within the RAMSES system, complying with funding agency guidelines using a variety of agency funding mechanisms and procedures.
* Post-Award: Monitor, initiate & approve personnel and non-personnel expenditures, document cost share, adjust personnel efforts on projects, analyze the burn-rate on sponsored projects, and track and communicate financial data and discuss project needs with the PI. 
* Reporting: Assist in submitting funding agency progress reports, perform project close-out activities, submit and track closing entries, and assist PI’s with no-cost extension requests and reconcile project expenses monthly.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

* Interpreting and applying regulations, policies and procedures regarding grant funds
* Building and maintaining effective working relationships with Faculty and Staff members
* Communicating clearly in verbal and written formats
* Meeting all departmental deadlines
* Attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
* At least three years of university experience in Pre- and Post-Award sponsored research administration
* Experience with university financial and personnel systems such as ConnectCarolina, Gradstar, Infoporte, and RAMSeS
* The ability to maintain and balance deadlines
* Applied knowledge of uniform guidance policy
