Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) offers nearly 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs from nine Maryland public universities on one convenient campus in Montgomery County.USG helps prepare students for rewarding careers in the region’s most high-demand fields. Students who successfully complete their coursework on the USG campus graduate with a degree from one of its nine partner universities. Through on-campus services such as academic coaching, career advising, internship preparation, personal counseling, and leadership training, students leave the USG campus with the academic skills and real-world experiences needed for successful careers.

The Business Partnerships Program Director represents the Universities at Shady Grove’s (USG’s) executive director and academic partners to corporate leaders and regional employers. This position has primary responsibility for identifying and creating strategic partnerships that create mutual benefit for students, graduates, and the regional business community. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer and working with a dynamic, inter-dependent and collaborative team, the Business Partnerships Program Director will lead efforts to grow, enhance and innovate in the areas of business engagement, relationship and partnership building as well as prospect cultivation and management to ensure the success of USG 2.0. This includes the development and maintenance of portfolios, prospect management reports, strategy briefings and profiles, prospect interests, and establishing fundraising targets and strategies based on analysis of research findings to support the academic pathway from elementary education to higher education, USG Industry hub (sector) strategies, principal, major and annual giving frontline fundraising efforts and to extend institutional relationships.

The Business Partnerships Program Director will be responsible for the success, growth and evolution of USG’s strategic priorities, leading USG efforts within sectors through portfolio management and oversight, the creation and execution of strategies, and management of accounts. In addition, will ensure the priorities are elevated and conveyed and relationships cultivated toward that end. As part of a team, will collaborate to build transformative and impact-driven strategic partnerships. The Business Partnerships Program Director works in tandem with the Chief Advancement Officer, Executive Director, and other USG Executive Council members and university partners, or in some cases independently, to develop and support appropriate program concepts and strategies for partnerships that support student academics, work experiences, career readiness, and entry into careers following graduation. Employer engagement innovations are critical to academic program development and expansion, investment in pathways and pipelines to meet employment demand, and research related to the USG model and promise.

The Business Partnerships Program Director works to build a team culture built on trust, collaboration, and performance; understanding both internal and external colleagues’ goals and identifying appropriate and innovative opportunities for support; ensuring diversity of experience and opportunity. This position is part of a growing business engagement team that identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards corporate entities, as well as other potential workforce development partners, individuals, and foundations to invest in USG to drive impact through hub (STEM, Life Sciences, Business and Education, and Healthcare) fields. This position is a vital partner in the successful implementation of USG’s business and employer engagement strategy with its nine university partners and industry hubs (sectors).

The Universities at Shady Grove campus is located in Rockville, MD.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum Experience:
  • 12 years of related experience required including fundraising or closely related experience, with at least 5 of those years working collaboratively on philanthropic gifts within a complex institution Must have a proven track record of initiating and building relationships with prospects.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Skills in communication and presentations, both written and verbal
  • Ability to initiate collaborations
  • Ability to ensure stakeholder engagement (internal and external)
  • Ability to deliver on the Promise underUSG2.0 through innovation and creativity
  • Ability to think as an entrepreneur

Preferences:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Experience in partnership building between educational institutions, businesses, and community organizations.
