Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Director for Faculty Initiatives, the Program Manager deals with issues pertaining to the functioning of faculty, including promotion review processes. In addition, the Manager will facilitate faculty recognition and awards processes (e.g., DUP, DST). The Program Manager is charged with implementing the APT, AEP, Librarian, and Emeritus/a review processes, and with developing and maintaining the workflow for documentation of faculty issues. Communication on promotion and awards processes with academic units is a critical function of the position. The Program Manager also will coordinate faculty awards – both internal and external to the University. Working with other OFA team members on communication and development for faculty, the Program Manager presents a “face” for the Office of Faculty Affairs in dealing with the university at large (to faculty and other administrators) and must be a permanent and trusted advisor to the Associate Provost and Director for Faculty Initiatives in implementing major plans and initiatives for the office.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required 5-7 years of experience in administrative and managerial work, including 5 years at the University of Maryland College Park.

Experience:
  • Experience with APT and AEP at the Department or College levels.
  • Experience with working in both Mac and Windows environment, with proficiency in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google Apps for Education as a minimum. 
  • Experience with using OFA apps (e.g., APA system for dossier and nomination reviews, Leave Portal).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills are essential. 
  • The ability to respect confidentiality and manage highly confidential material is necessary. 
  • Strong client service skills, the ability to organize complex material, and manage logistical challenges efficiently.
  • Knowledge of and experience with UMD faculty-related policy, APT and AEP in particular, is critical, as is the ability to interact effectively with faculty and staff from all areas of campus and all levels of professional accomplishment, from newly hired departmental Administrative Assistants to Distinguished University Professors and the Provost. 
  • The ability to advise independently, make difficult decisions, develop and improve awards and promotion review process, and find consensus among parties and diverse administrative levels with diverse views.
