Environmental Engineer, Central Utilities Plant (CUP)

Job Description

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER, Facilities-Central Utilities Plant (CUP), to support the CUP in the areas of environmental compliance pertaining to plant engineering, operations, and maintenance.  Will perform the analysis and reporting necessary to ensure compliance with environmental policies and regulations, providing strategic direction and oversight in enhancing the CUP’s environmental regulatory compliance.  The Environmental Engineer will have a deep understanding of operational and regulatory needs that govern CUP operations to minimize risk and costs while also supporting MIT’s strategic environmental and sustainability goals. 

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in environmental science or engineering or related technical discipline; at least seven years of related technical environmental experience; regulatory experience; ability to hold or obtain Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License, Grade 2 Industrial; experience managing environmental compliance programs in a multidisciplinary environment; knowledge of and proficiency with federal and state rules associated with air, waste, wastewater regulations and spill prevention, stormwater management, and wastewater systems; ability to work independently with minimal guidance and across teams in a fast-paced working environment with multiple projects and stakeholders; strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively; initiative; analytical and problem-solving skills; and advanced-level computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office (particularly Excel). PREFERRED:  professional engineer’s license and/or professional certifications as an environmental professional or manager; experience in plant operations and/or facilities management settings; and experience managing Title V air emissions permits and air pollution control technologies, with specific field experience managing CEMS.  Job #22497-10
