Summary

**THIS IS A 3-YEAR TERM-LIMITED APPOINTMENT**

The University of Michigan is seeking a dynamic and experienced Learning Experience Design Lead to spearhead the development of online degree courses and curriculum innovations. As a Learning Experience Design Lead, you will collaborate with faculty and staff to create innovative and captivating online courses that promote student success and meet the needs of a diverse student body.

 The Learning Experience Design Lead will work closely with the School of Social Work's online learning team and faculty to ensure that online courses are rigorously designed and delivered to the highest standards, thus guaranteeing an exceptional learning experience for all students. This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished Learning Experience Design Lead to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of online learning at one of the world's foremost research universities.

Moreover, this position will work closely with the Center for Academic Innovation and other units across the University of Michigan to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and partnerships in developing high-quality online/hybrid degree programs. The Center for Academic Innovation is at the forefront of developing innovative educational technologies and cutting-edge pedagogical approaches, thus allowing the Learning Experience Design Lead to collaborate with a team of knowledgeable experts in educational technology, data analytics, and learning design.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a proven track record of designing and delivering high-quality, engaging online courses in a higher education setting. They will possess a passion for improving access to education and have the desire to explore and research how digital technologies can be used in residential, hybrid, and online settings designed to transform education. It is also expected that a successful candidate will have a deep understanding of emerging technologies like AI-assisted tools for education and a strong commitment to accessibility and universal design principles. They will be a collaborative and innovative team player with the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders. Because this position will focus on initiatives within the School of Social Work, a demonstrated interest in the values of the social work community is a plus.

Responsibilities*

Curriculum Innovation Support:

  • Work closely with the MSW program director to develop instructional strategies and supporting materials that align with the identified curriculum needs. 
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure that the curriculum is effectively implemented and meets the needs of students.
  • Develop and implement faculty/student training materials that address the School’s pedagogical goals and objectives.
  • Stay current with the latest trends and best practices in Social Work education including the CSWE-accreditation requirements, and industry. 

Online and Hybrid Program Leadership:

  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative and effective learning strategies, materials, and technologies for online and hybrid courses.
  • Work closely with faculty and staff to ensure that online and hybrid courses align with the School's pedagogical goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with learning experience designers, multimedia specialists, and other professionals to create engaging and interactive online and hybrid courses.
  • Provide leadership in developing learning experiences that exceed expectations regarding accessibility, copyright compliance, and use of open resources.
  • Supervise learning experience design staff.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in instructional design, education technology, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in learning experience design, instructional design, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing innovative and effective learning strategies, materials, and technologies for online courses.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and staff to design and develop online courses.
  • Strong communication, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with learning management systems, multimedia authoring tools, and other educational technologies.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Experience successfully redesigning residential courses for fully online and/or hybrid course delivery. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and universal design principles for online courses.
  • Advance degree (Masters / PhD) in educational theory, instructional design, or educational technology
  • Skills in visual communication and user experience design
  • Skills in developing web-based interactives
  • Knowledge of social work education and practice is preferred but not required.
