Summary of Position

The Memorial Union & Student Activities at the University of New Hampshire in Durham is seeking a part-time adjunct staff member to manage building operations and supervise student employees Monday through Thursday from 6pm to 11pm (20 hours per week) when classes are in session. The shift start and end time are flexible. The Memorial Union Building hosts thousands of meetings and events sponsored by student organizations, campus departments, and external clients every year. Under the supervision and direction of the Operations Manager and Assistant Director for Operations & Events, this position works to foster a sense of community and inclusion as well as enhance the student life experience by creating meaningful opportunities for development and engagement.

This staff member must be available to work when fall and spring classes are in session – typically fifteen weeks each semester. There could be additional opportunities to work during winter and summer break periods based on need and availability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage building operations Monday through Thursday from 6pm to 11pm including the coordination of all room flips, setups for the next business day, and closing the building
  • Supervise student employees working at the Information Desk as well as the Logistics and Services team members assisting with room setups and client service
  • Provide excellent client service for all meetings and events in the building
  • Troubleshoot basic AV issues for existing technology in meeting and event spaces
  • Assist with the ongoing training of student employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • High School Diploma
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to coordinate a myriad of duties in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfort using technology including audio-visual equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • College Degree
  • Experience working in higher education environment
  • Prior supervision experience
  • Prior event management experience
  • Prior employee training experience

Physical Demands

  • Moving tables and chairs
  • Lifting, pulling, pushing of furniture and a/v equipment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
