DESCRIPTION

This position is a full-time tenure track, 11 month counselor assignment in the Counseling and Matriculation Division. The current counseling load is 35 hour week.  Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and/or hybrid format, evening and or Saturday classes.  

 


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Work 35 weekly hours per semester in Counseling. 
  • Participate in faculty/division meetings; yearly program review; curricular planning, development, and implementation; student learning outcomes: data collection and writing action plans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and support the (implementation; evaluation of educational programs); and college governance to  advance the college's mission and strategic goals.
  • Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.
  • Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
  • Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Travel between District locations is also expected.
  • Performs other counseling-related duties as assigned.
  • To provide academic advisement for students
  • Create educational plans
  • Assist students who wish to transfer, may be on academic probation or need to declare and academic major
  • Assignment may include working during the day, evening or online

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.

(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline per CCR 53410.1.)

 

  • Antelope Valley College Equivalency:  No Equivalency available

 

DESIRABLES:

  • Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.
  • Counseling experience that reflects culturally responsive practices.
  • Successful experience counseling at the college or university level. 
  • Experience using counseling software.
