Automotive Technology Instructor FT - 10 months

Job Description

DESCRIPTION

This position is a full-time tenure track, 10 month classroom teaching assignment in the Career Technical Education Automotive Program (AUTO) Division. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and/or hybrid format, evening and or Saturday classes.  


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Teach fifteen lecture hour equivalents per semester in Automotive Technology Program using various teaching methods including demonstrations and active learning strategies.
  • Maintain five office hours per week, including regular posted office hours, which are accessible to students.
  • Responsible for preparation time
  • Participate in faculty/division meetings; yearly program review; curricular planning, development, and implementation; student learning outcomes: data collection and writing action plans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance to  advance the college's mission and strategic goals.
  • Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.
  • Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
  • Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Travel between District locations is also expected.
  • Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Any Bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of experience OR any Associate degree AND six years of experience OR equivalency:

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.
  • Teaching experience that reflects culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Successful experience teaching Automotive Technology at the college or university level.
  • A strong "generalist background" and teaching experience in the field of Automotive Technology.
  • Teaching experience and academic background in one or more of the following: Engine operations and repair, automatic transmissions and transaxles, manual transmissions, transaxles and drivetranins, suspension and steering, brake systems, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning systems, engine performance.
  • Experience using a learning management system (LMS)
  • Experience in developing and revising curriculum, assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in program review documents. 
  • Extensive automotive experience. 
  • Experience developing NATEF /ASE P1, P2, and P3 student lab documents. 
  • Experience developing and implementing curriculum, lecture material, lab activities, and testing that aligns with NATEF /ASE certification or equivalent. Testing must include evaluation of both understanding and hands-on ability. 
  • Experience recruiting potential students, performing outreach, developing industry partnerships, serving on campus wide committees, and additional activities to benefit the automotive program outside of the classroom. 
  • Demonstrated experience in course planning documentation, daily lesson plans, and related support materials specific to the content areas that support student success. 
  • Knowledge or experience with career tech education content development and presentation styles. 
  • Certification in ASE A1-A8 areas and maintenance and light repair (G1). 
  • Certification in ASE advanced engine performance (L1) preferred. Certified Bureau of Automotive Repair Smog instructor EO and EI license preferred. 
  • Experience collaborating with full-time and adjunct faculty to develop, update and review curriculum currency in order to respond to the needs of historically underrepresented students. 
  • Currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility and subject matter. 
  • Strong organizational skills.
