Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering seeks a highly organized and personableprofessional with exceptional attention to detail to join our ECE Payroll unit. The Payroll & Finance Coordinator, under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Payroll and Human Resources, will be responsible for processing payroll actions in PHR, entering payroll encumbrances in BA4, serving as the visa contact for the department, and processing payroll salary expense transfers inKFS. Payroll activities include appointments graduate student appointments, and terminations each semester, joint appointments, pay adjustments, time entry adjustments, and timesheet corrections.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience plus three years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll and/or personnel work.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Must possess strong attention to details and an ability to execute multiple assignments under specific time constraints while being able to work well under pressure
  • Must be self-motivated with a willingness to take initiative
  • Strong verbal/written communication computer skills required including Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and Google suite along with organizational abilities.
  • Ability to understand and interpret university policies and procedures in the areas of finance, human resources and payroll. .
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision; ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff in a multi-tasking working environment
  • Dedication to providing excellent service to internal and external customers

Preferences:

Preferred Experience:
  • Working experience in higher education, specifically at UMD, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with research administration and post-award account management.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of university software tools and/or systems such as PHR, KFS, BA4 (Priority), eTerp, and others
  • Knowledge of UMD’s policies and procedures in the areas of visas, payroll and finance

  • Mostly sedentary work performed in an office environment requiring the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards for extended times.
  • Ability to review, prepare, and analyze data and figures, transcribe, and engage extensive reading of materials and computer screens.
