Notre Dame Turbomachinery Lab (NDTL) is a research and development organization focused on the execution of large-scale, high-energy, high-complexity testing supported by leading-edge computational and analysis capabilities. Located in a 25,000 square foot facility in downtown South Bend’s Ignition Park, NDTL partners with industry and government in the development of advanced technologies required for conventional and high Mach air-breathing propulsion, energy generation, advanced thermal management, and energy storage solutions.
We are searching for an Associate Test Engineer. This position will support the research efforts of the NDTL. Our mission is to develop advanced technologies for the next generation of gas-turbine engines.
The Associate Test Engineer will be responsible for the preparation and operation of high-speed turbomachinery test articles, facilities, and related instrumentation. The successful candidate must be familiar with the applied research and testing environment. The Associate Test Engineer will construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, and operate a wide range of instrumentation, software, and mechanical systems to safely acquire high-fidelity test data. The test engineer will be in direct contact with a variety of external vendors, internal and external engineers, program managers, and scientists.
The successful candidate will need the ability to multi-task and interact successfully with individuals with varying levels of experience while working closely with faculty, staff, and students. Must be able to organize and prioritize work independently and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment where creativity and flexibility is highly regarded. The ability to teach oneself new skills as required is also essential.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Operation of turbomachinery facilities, data acquisition, basic data quality verification
• Design, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, software, and hardware in a test environment
• Team with facility technicians to prepare test articles and facility for operation
• Test planning and cost estimation
• Test process development and documentation
• Test status reporting
The NDTL is part of Notre Dame Research. Notre Dame Research is committed to creating a community that fosters equity of experience and opportunity and ensures that members of all backgrounds feel safe, welcome, and included. We strive to achieve a culture of openness, autonomy, and belonging; making Notre Dame an exceptional place for our team, partners, and collaborators to flourish.
