The University of Utah Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is seeking a new faculty member at the assistant professor level, research track, with expertise in medical imaging applied to neuroscience. This individual is expected to make a significant impact in their subspecialty of medical imaging sciences and related areas through innovations and to contribute to a collegial environment that will promote academic growth. The candidate is expected to establish a funded research program with sustained high quality publications.
Qualifications: This position requires a PhD degree in an appropriate science or technology major such as Neuroscience, Neuro-epidemiology or Bioengineering. The successful candidate must have substantial experience in neurological medical imaging and applied research and have demonstrated successful peer-reviewed publications in the field of medical imaging sciences. Outstanding research and interpersonal skills are a prerequisite. The candidate will be expected to generate extramural funding for independent and collaborative research projects and to work well in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment in the Department and in the University community. Evidence of securing external grant funding will be a big plus.
Facilities and Institution: The Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research (UCAIR, http://medicine.utah.edu/ucair/ )) in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the University of Utah is home to a team of top-notch scientists with broad expertise and state-of-the-art technology. The Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research currently has 19 faculty, with post doctoral fellows and graduate students from biomedical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and medical informatics in addition to several physician scientists. Research faculties have access to a number of MRI scanners (One Siemens 3T Prisma, one Siemens 3T Vida, one Siemens 3T Trios, three Siemens 3T Verios, two Siemens 1.5T Avantos, one Siemens 1.5T Aera, and micro PET-MRI and a Bruker 7T pre-clinical scanner), a full coil laboratory, a Siemens PET/CT scanner and a GE Discovery and a GE Advance PET/CT scanner with on-site cyclotron, several gamma cameras, two 64 slice CT scanners (one with dual tube CT), a large network of UNIX/LINUXwork stations and PCs, and access to the University supercomputing facilities. Strong collaborations exist between UCAIR, the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute (SCI), and the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The University of Utah Health Sciences offer various leadership programs and research training opportunities for faculty members. Location: The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City , in the foothill of the Wasatch Mountains at the western edge of the Rocky Mountains.
