Satellite Systems Analyst (El Segundo)

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Job Description

Description

Are you passionate about delivering ground-breaking capabilities to protect and defend US space systems?

Do you like contributing to the new space system concepts that break from traditional architectures?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL's Field Office in El Segundo, CA.

We are a group of hardworking, dedicated engineers and scientists focused on bringing capabilities to the Space Force. Our team values integrity as a trusted organization above all. We are seeking a Satellite Systems Analyst to help us make next generation Space Domain Awareness systems a reality! While supporting the US Space Force and their Space Systems Command (SSC), you will turn payload concepts into reality by guiding activities from integration and test through operational acceptance. You will identify novel concepts and capabilities to prototype and demonstrate as the systems mature and become operational. As a member of our team in El Segundo, you'll contribute to multiple efforts supporting SSC, including concept development, modeling and simulation, and testing.

As a Satellite Systems Analyst your duties will be:

  • Lead and contribute to space warfighting modeling, simulation, and analysis tasks for a variety of governmental organizations (25%)
  • Ensure the realization of space-based space domain awareness sensors that deliver warfighter impacts in a broader system-of-systems space warfighting architecture (25%)
  • Contribute to all phases of the systems engineering process - often at the same time! (20%)
  • Develop capabilities-based perspectives, concepts, and requirements for defense organizations, commanders, and staffs (20%)
  • Collaborate with and advise key Government decision makers to directly influence technical choices, risk trades, and investment decisions critical to the implementation of solutions to warfighter needs (10%)

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a BS in engineering, science, or related technical field.
  • Have 5+ years of experience working with satellite systems, payloads, or ground architectures.
  • Are skilled in systems engineering and analysis fundamentals including: writing and reviewing requirements definition; understanding interfaces between hosts and payloads; system test design and execution; and risk identification, tracking, and mitigation.
  • Are self-motivated and self-directed, with a strong intellectual curiosity and a desire to teach those around you.
  • Possess outstanding written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and a proficiency at relationship building.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well-being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.
  • Hold an active Top Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have significant experience in Space Domain Awareness operations, acquisitions, or analysis.
  • Are skilled at resolving challenges across the entire acquisition lifecycle.
  • Possess a MS in engineering, science, or related technical field.
  • Have 10+ years of experience working with satellite systems, payloads, or ground architectures.
