Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Learning Experience Designer will provide coaching, administrative, and instructional design support to build capacity on campus for evidence-based teaching and learning practices. This role will support instructors and collaborate with other units on campus regarding course and program design, development, implementation and evaluation. As a member of a dynamic and highly skilled team of education developers, this individual will host workshops, provide 1:1 consultations, develop resources, coordinate programs, and host learning communities. We are looking for a passionate, highly creative individual who can inspire others to explore innovative and technology-enhanced approaches to teaching for students at the University of Maryland. This learning experience designer will be a member of the Teaching and Learning Transformation Center.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • A Master’s degree in an education related field, or an Instructional Systems Design certificate, plus 3 or more years of experience in faculty development or instructional design. 
Or 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field, with 7 or more years of experience conducting faculty development programs, developing instructional resources, or providing. instructional, curriculum, and technical design consulting services to subject matter experts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience in designing authentic assessments and engaging course content.
  • Experience with authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline for the creation of sophisticated adaptive learning.
  • Experience in collaborating with teams and clients to manage expectations.
  • Extremely well-versed in the application of design methodologies including but not limited to: ADDIE model, SAM, backward design, and interactive learning experiences.
  • Ability to be creative, flexible, and innovative in course design.
  • Highly proficient computer skills to include MS Office Suite and G-Suite.
  • Ability to provide instructional, curriculum, and technical design consulting services to subject matter experts (faculty).
  • Excellent English-language verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, superior organizational skills, self-direction, and motivation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet strict deadlines.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Master’s degree in instructional design, distance education, or instructional technology.
  • Experience supporting blended, flipped, or online courses in a higher education environment preferred.
  • Training in design, psychology, and data science will be beneficial but not necessary.
  • Knowledge of Canvas learning management system preferred.
  • Proficient in HTML.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using authoring tools such as Captivate and Storyline to create sophisticated adaptive learning content.
  • Experience using and supporting a wide variety of multimedia development tools such as Audacity, Camtasia, Kaltura, SlideShare, PowToon, and streaming services.
  • Knowledge of instructional software such as TurningPoint, Respondus, Panopto, etc.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction: exceptional skills in collaboration, consultation, communication, customer support, data analysis, and time management.
  • Driven by standards of excellence and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to foster faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of innovative technologies for teaching.

Additional Information:

The salary range for this position is $73,600 – $92,000.
