Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

As an IT Programmer Analyst within the Department of Dining Services’ Information Technology (IT) unit, this position designs, develops and implements custom software and utilities that support the operations of Dining Services. The incumbent is responsible for developing software interfaces and integration between systems being used in Dining Services and other systems on campus. Responds to ad-hoc data and reporting requests, and works collaboratively with technical and non-technical staff to automate processes. Manages multiple concurrent projects and works under time-sensitive deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience:
 
  • Five years of experience working in the IT field, with at least three years of experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting Oracle or SQL server databases.
  • Experience with technical writing (e.g., system documentation).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to interact with non-technical administrative employees to sustain a collaborative programming setting.
  • Ability to follow through on multiple and often simultaneous projects and work under time-sensitive deadlines.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Work experience in a college or university setting, or large, institutional foodservice operation.
  • Experience programming for direct delivery of programs or services to a client base.
  • Experience programming in PL/SQL
  • Experience developing or integrating Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, e.g. Oracle Simphony, or meal plan management systems, e.g. CSGold.
  • Experience with web design and programming.
  • Experience programming in object-oriented languages like Java or C#.

Physical Demands

Ability to use desktop computers for significant hours per day.

This is an essential position and the incumbent must report to work when the campus is closed due to weather or other emergency situations. Must be able to work a variable schedule including weekends, nights, evenings, and holidays. Annual leave will not be granted for specific periods including the weeks preceding and right after the start of each semester, Football Weekends, Maryland Day, Family Weekend or special events including but not limited to OM. Must have the manual dexterity to operate equipment with or without accommodation and to lift up to 15 pounds regularly. The University of Maryland is a non-smoking campus.
