Overview

Reporting to the Senior Director of the DFCI Clinical Trials Office, the Director of Research Education & Strategic Initiatives is responsible for the collaborative development, implementation, and day-to-day management of the DFCI internal and externally led research education and training program and other strategic initiatives. The Director of Research Education & Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with the DFCI / DFHCC’s academic partners, and as a liaison between both stakeholders, will be responsible for overall curriculum development and didactic course instruction.  In addition to teaching and/or assigning staff to teach, will be responsible for updating course materials ongoing. The Director of Research Education & Strategic Initiatives will be responsible supervising other CTO Educational and or other staff as assigned within the CTO, the development and deployment of the associated internship program, building and facilitating academic partnerships and associated coursework, and reporting on retention efforts with a focus on targeted learning and development opportunities related to the Center’s research faculty and staff identified needs.  This position will also oversee various additional strategic initiatives / collaborations that support the DFCI mission, related goals and associated KPIs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a Clinical Research practice curriculum development and didactic (in-classroom and/or via remote media) course instruction.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact and oversees the day-to-day management of the Center’s research internship including but not limited to; intern selection, orientation, experiential learning and on-going competency assessment, mentorship matching and on-going network development.
  • Supervises, mentors, and guides additional identified staff assigned to Educational & Strategic initiatives.
  • Stays up to date with current research practices and trends to develop, execute and update educational materials and resources and to conduct live and online educational sessions to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Center and academic partners, works on behalf of both stakeholders to enhance shared programs.
  • Responsible for conducting periodic analyses, metrics and retention reporting to determine specific training needs for research staff with stakeholder input.
  • Prepares and presents status reports and training metrics to key stakeholders including recruitment and retention and network development
  • Will also be assigned to additional projects related to overall research educational and operation process improvement initiatives.

  • Master’s degree in a field relevant to clinical research and management required
  • 7 years of experience with clinical research training and experience working in a clinical trials environment required
  • 7 years supervisory / management experience required 
  • Experience in an academic medical center and proven history of success in clinical research field required
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory affairs, research ethics and an overall understanding of the conduct of clinical research
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, content development and comfort with presenting to large groups
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to exhibit good judgement when determining appropriate escalation
  • Excellent ability to work independently and balance multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Strong ability to both work as a member of and effectively and proactively leads teams
  • Ability to identify problems or potential obstacles and resolve many situations independently
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor others and assist in the resolution of complex issues
