Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time, one-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Management to begin September 1, 2023. The department anticipates a continued vacancy, and the successful candidate may be considered for continuation into additional years, contingent upon favorable review and the continuing needs of the College.

Department Information: The Department of Economics and Management offers majors in Economics, Management, and Accounting. We are one of the largest departments on campus, typically graduating 100-120 students each year, including around 25 accounting majors. Our graduates consistently secure positions with the top 20 accounting firms.

Things you will do:

  • Teach 7 course sections during the academic year. Typically, 3 in the Fall, 1 in January, and 3 in the Spring. Two of the sections in Fall and/or Spring may be the same course. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Managerial Accounting plus at least one of the following: Auditing, Federal Taxation, or Cost Accounting (please indicate in your application letter which areas you are qualified and interested in teaching). After the first year, academic and professional advising of accounting majors may become part of the job duties.
  • Help cultivate a welcoming community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We strive to foster an environment where people can be themselves, build community, learn, and grow.

  • Improve your teaching by joining a teaching circle, participating in workshops, applying for an internal teaching development grant, and engaging in conversations about teaching with colleagues across campus.
  • Advance your scholarship by working with undergraduate research assistants, joining a writing retreat, applying for an internal grant, receiving travel funds to present at conferences, receiving help applying for external grants, and making use of our research facilities.
  • Develop professional skills by participating in faculty meetings and committees, attending faculty development days, and taking advantage of the College's membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).

Prerequisites

Whats required:

  • MBA, MAcc, MBT, or equivalent degree (10 or more years of work experience the field may be considered in place of the graduate degree)
  • Professional certification (i.e., CPA, CMA, or CFE)


Whats preferred:

  • Prior experience teaching at the college-level
  • Evidence of effectiveness in teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
