Job Description

The primary role of the full-time Instructor in Biology is to promote student success in a professional and ethical manner. Responsible for instructing and facilitating student learning; committed to student recruitment and retention; assessment of learning, development of curriculum, and the use of both classroom and lab instruction. This position is part of the teaching faculty and reports to the designated administrator.

Required Qualifications
  • Master of Science Degree in Biology.
  • Two (2) years of college teaching experience.
  • Experience with instructional technology.

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience in Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology and General Biology within the last five years.
  • Ability to employ new pedagogies, multi-media and information technologies to supplement instruction within the classroom and alternative delivery methodologies.
  • Knowledgeable in the learning needs and abilities of today’s community college student and the role of the community college in higher education and the community.
  • Communication/social skills which enable cooperative, effective, and responsible work with community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Familiarity with, and willingness to develop, online and other alternative delivery methodologies.
  • Commitment to provide service to the department, campus, and to the larger community.

    • Writing Skills: Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
    • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from prospective and current employees, and groups of managers.
    • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
    • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    • Office Environment: This role may involve being in a stationary position in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse (or applicable equipment) and telephone. Communicating and exchanging information with individuals electronically or in person. This role may involve moving objects of up to 10 lbs., and on occasion, up to 25 lbs.
    • Noise Level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Work Hours
Variable; minimum 14-16 credit hours per week in Fall and Winter; minimum 5 office hours per week in Fall and Winter; plus additional work responsibilities

 

Salary
Per Faculty Bargaining Agreement
