WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Director of Donor Communications manages a high-performing team of writers and designers responsible for developing content to cultivate, solicit and steward donors to The Nature Conservancy’s highest organizational priorities. They set the strategic vision, lead the team, supervise multiple team members and sit on the 30+ person Donor Relations department’s leadership team. They report to the Director of Donor Content.

The Director of Donor Communications is responsible for management and oversight of all aspects of the 10+ member Donor Communications Team, which crafts highly customized messaging and materials directed toward principal gift-level individual and institutional donors.

They develop and communicate overall team vision and strategy. They manage workflow, establish and meet deadlines, and provide guidance to team members. They set and track team goals. They are responsible for helping the organization meet fundraising goals including campaign goals.

The Director of Donor Communications supports multiple direct reports and engages regularly with all team members. Their primary responsibility is team management and oversight, but they will also produce donor content as needed. The Donor Communications Team’s responsibilities include customized grant proposals, reports, videos, slide decks, photobooks and digital content.

As a member of the Donor Relations leadership team, the Director collaborates regularly with the Global Director of Donor Relations, Stewardship and Engagement directors and their teams. They partner with the Director of Donor Content to contribute to and determine their team’s participation in the development of foundational donor messaging, fundraiser resources and internal consulting services. They cultivate and maintain relationships with fundraisers from across the organization, program staff focused on TNC’s global priorities and a wide range of partners in Development, Marketing and Conservation.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Minimum qualifications (required):

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years related experience, including experience working at a senior level.
  • Management experience of a large multidisciplinary team, including planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.
  • Experience managing relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Experience conceiving, developing, and managing multiple projects and strategic goals.
  • Experience developing practices and procedures of the relevant field.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience working in a large, complex, not-for-profit environment.
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Effectively communicate via presentations, conversations, and documents.
  • Experience managing a geographically dispersed team.
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.
  • Expert understanding of best practices in non-profit management.
  • Proficiency in synthesizing materials from multiple sources into a coherent and accurate summary.
