Responsibilities

The Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) is seeking a Project Manager who will help support the mission of the Center for Cancer Equity and Engagement (CCEE) to ensure DF/HCC activities reduce the burden of cancer for Massachusetts residents and beyond through community outreach and engagement efforts. Under the direction of the Program Director and CCEE Leadership, the Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of CCEE’s new initiative which will develop partnerships and infrastructure in community health centers, including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC)’s, where cancer screening, early detection, care pathways, and education can be implemented for underserved communities. This role will provide project management support to expand community partnerships and work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to develop processes to connect communities to cancer services and education.

The Center for Cancer Equity and Engagement (CCEE) is responsible for the Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) component of Dana/Faber Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC).  CCEE partners with organizations across the state to address cancer disparities and increase access to cancer care. It works to connect DF/HCC research faculty directly with communities to bridge the gap of access between researchers/providers and community members. CCEE believes that the bi-directional relationship between communities and institutions that provide cancer care is essential to reducing cancer disparities in our state.

The Research Project Manager I will work independently under general supervision of a more senior manager within CCEE.   This position may be responsible for some or all of the following:

Project Management & Implementation - 50%

  • Responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation throughout the projects’ life cycles.
  • Develop and monitor short- and long-term project goals.
  • Develop project tracking documents such as Gantt chart and ensure deliverables and timelines are met.
  • Serve as a point of contact for teams and ensure cohesive communication across all initiative stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with all project teams to continuously seek input and feedback to improve project outcomes.
  • Visit health center partners to understand their structures and systems and become content expert.
  • Develop flowcharts that allow teams to understand various pathways for screening, early detection, care pathways, and education can be implemented in community health settings.
  • In partnership with other CCEE staff identify opportunities to align initiative with other DF/HCC COE activities.
  • Collaborate with project teams to plan and evaluate activities to align with CCEE goals.
  • Responsible for data management which may include database design and the creation of data dictionaries.
  • Responsible for the development of presentation slides for meetings and conferences on supported projects.
  • Consults with and advises CCEE staff on project issues during project development and implementation.
  • Create community resources and educational materials aligned with the initiative’s goals.
  • Assist with other CCEE projects as needed.

Partnership Development - 40%

  • Engage with and collaborate with FQHC partners (staff and leaders) to understand their needs and the communities they serve.
  • Identify opportunities to build trust among partners and communities.
  • Coordinate feedback opportunities to solicit input from FQHCs partners and other key stake holders for program improvement.
  • Engage with CCEE’s Community Engagement Advisory Board (CEAB) to identify opportunities to build new partnerships and collaboration opportunities that align with the goals of the initiative.
  • Attend community events hosted by our community partners and represent CCEE and the initiative in those events.
  • Work closely with Harvard Zhu Family Center for Global Cancer Prevention, Harvard Catalyst, the Harvard Implementation Science Center for Cancer Control Equity program and key community partners such as the Massachusetts League of Community Health Center and others.

Administrative Responsibilities - 10%

  • Coordinate and lead meetings across all partners.
  • Develop meeting agendas and take meeting notes.
  • Follow up on meeting action items and share meeting minutes with involved groups.
  • Develop project protocols, project plans, progress plans, quarterly reports, fiscal reports, etc.
  • Designs processes for maintaining timely, complete and high quality data collection.
  • Work with Project Director to review funding needs and opportunities.
  • Track/document initiative evaluation metrics.
  • Assist with other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required in a field relevant public health, health administration or another closely related field with 1-2 years of related experience. 

Minimum Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in project coordination/management in a health-related field.
  • Experience engaging and conducting community outreach and engagement events in underserved communities.
  • Experience building community partners/forging new relationships to achieve a common goal.
  • Experience in research design, implementation, and evaluation methods.
  • Experience designing and implementing strategic plans.
  • Experience conceptualizing, planning, and conducting virtual and in-person events and meetings.

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and diplomatic skills to forge and maintain relationships with community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to acknowledge diverse and intersecting identities in interpersonal communication and project design.
  • Ability to anticipate problems/issues and take appropriate initiative to find solutions.
  • Advanced writing skills to prepare presentations, reports, training materials, etc. to a variety of different audience in particular community members. Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge of health literacy approaches and techniques.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, direct, and/or perform numerous and varied tasks simultaneously and efficiently
  • Analytical skills to solve complex problems and to investigate various sources of information and develop acceptable solutions.
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy, following the project plans, following cancer center priorities, resources, and policies and working effectively with team members.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams); Virtual Platforms (Zoom, Teams); Adobe Acrobat Pro; Box. Ability to learn new software as needed.
  • Knowledge of public health issues, systems of care, treatment modalities etc.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities and adhere to critical deadlines.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s in public health, health administrator, or closely related field with 1-2 years of related experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with (or in) Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) or other community health settings
  • Demonstrated experience managing community health and research projects
  • Experience building capacity for research, education, and public health activities in communities
  • Experience working with projects aimed at increasing access to health services for communities
