The Furniture and Moving Worker 1 is an important position to the college because all duties performed are visible and contribute greatly to the environment and overall appeal at each campus and in each building. This position knows fundamental concepts of Furniture and Moving services that will assist to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for all campuses and sites operated by Salt Lake Community College.
Under immediate supervision of The Furniture and Moving Specialist 1, this position performs standard tasks using established methods and makes routine judgements on matters. This position requires a broad range of complex technical and professional work activities including excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

The position has a regular schedule but may require flexibility as needed based on project and event set up needs.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Setup and teardown classrooms, offices, conference rooms, and other furniture.
- Read and follow work order directions for room layouts and placement requests.
- Move tables, chairs, lecterns, lab equipment, storage, and other items as needed.
- Move very heavy objects, 100 lbs. or more by using appropriate tools, equipment, carts, and dollies.
- Clean, organize and maintain stored furniture inventory
- Assess needs and problem solve furniture and moving related issues.
- Communicate effectively, follow directions, and ask questions as needed.
- Maintain and repair SLCC college furnishings with the use of hand tools and equipment.
- Move tables, chairs, storage with using appropriate tools, equipment, and dollies as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to read, write and do basic arithmetic
- No experience necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Valid UT Driver License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to learn and apply proper safety procedures and techniques for furniture setup and moving
- Receive and follow verbal/written instructions
- Load, deliver, and install furniture pieces.
- Ability to work independently, or with a team
- Ability to complete time sensitive work
- Ability to learn, teach and train
- Communication skills
- Knowledge of and ability to adhere to the safety requirements of OSHA and ISSA
- Ability to read and understand SDS label/sheet Knowledge of and ability to adhere to policies and procedures
- Organizational skills with attention to detail
- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to working effectively under pressure, with multiple deadlines and changing priorities
- Computer and data entry skills
- Basic MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track work orders
- Ability to safely Move 75 lbs
- Ability to position oneself to setup and teardown events
- Ability to safely use a ladder on a regular basis
- Basic knowledge of event setup and custodial equipment maintenance and tool usage
- Must be willing to respond to campus emergencies during off-hours as necessary
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College
- Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist Events Setup Team with setting up, tearing down, and cleaning up for special events as needed.
- Assist Surplus Team with moving surplus furniture.
- Other duties as assigned
