Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships, the Assistant Director of Compliance & Training oversees Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships (OFAS) regulatory compliance and staff training. This position supports SLCC’s compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures governing financial aid administration. The Assistant Director of Compliance & Training develops and delivers training for new and current staff members to ensure understanding of applicable rules and regulations.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensure policies and procedures are written in compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional requirements. Review, interpret, and implement financial aid policy and regulatory changes.
  • Train staff regarding SLCC policies and procedures, student aid policy, and federal and state regulations. Create and supervise OFAS training program. Coordinate with OFAS Leadership Team to identify training opportunities for staff across multiple locations.
  • Coordinate the reconciliation of federal and state aid programs across College departments.
  • Identify and address potential areas of compliance risk by developing and implementing audit program for areas such as R2T4, verification, etc. Implement corrective action plans to resolve areas of opportunity and provide general guidance on how to avoid or resolve similar situations in the future.
  • Supervise assigned employees.
  • Update SLCC’s Code of Conduct annually. Ensure all new staff complete acknowledgment upon hire and current staff annually.
  • Respond to alleged violations of regulations, policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct by evaluating and recommending action plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of higher education experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience supervising staff in office environment.
  • Experience with Banner and StudentForms.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Title IV federal regulations governing financial aid.
  • Experience in supervising personnel.
  • Ability to plan and implement training programs for OFAS staff.
  • Ability to interpret and implement financial aid regulatory and procedural updates.
  • Knowledge of state and institutional financial aid programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
