Summary

The LSA Opportunity Hub is seeking temporary ALA 225 Internship Experiential Learning Course Assistants to correspond asynchronously with students enrolled in the ALA 225 internship course. The course is structured to help students make the most of internships as experiential learning by engaging them in a series of reflections. The Course Assistants will engage with the same group of students over the course of the summer, commenting on student reflections, and encouraging students towards deeper engagement

What skills/knowledge will the employee gain from this position?

ALA 225 Experiential Learning Course Assistants will gain experience in employing a model for structured experiential learning, giving feedback, career courses in the context of the liberal arts, coaching students toward engagement, and industry knowledge via the wide array of companies and industries students are working in.

Responsibilities*

  • Training in LSA Opportunity Hub resources and practices
  • Training in remote asynchronous instruction for experiential learning
  • Practice and training on the use of the Sweitzer and King (2014) internship supervision model
  • Reading and responding to student work across the duration of their internships, including:
    • reflections
    • informational interviews
    • post-internship module
  • Attending group and individual check-in meetings
  • Reporting concerning situations to supervisor
  • Alerting LDA director to issues of attendance and/or participation

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or expected graduation in spring 2023
  • Prior experience in an internship, peer tutoring/mentoring, or serving as a course assistant
  • An interest in supporting students’ experiential learning as they advance their professional aspirations

Additional Information

This position begins on April 24, 2023 and ends on September 8, 2023. Experiential Learning Course Assistants will work 10-20 hours per week.  Multiple positions available.
