Summary

Logistics is seeking qualified and reliable candidates for the position of Mover III to join our Moving and Trucking team.  The Mover III position is a key part of the Moving and Trucking team that assists the needs of multiple schools, colleges and units across campus. This role requires an individual with excellent customer service skills, a strong sense of self-motivation, and a demonstrated ability to work in teams. 

Responsibilities*

  • Move items as requested by university schools, colleges and units

  • Assemble, disassemble, and reconfigure office furniture components, partitions, overhead cabinets and drawers

  • Mount and remove items including tack boards, shelving, and whiteboards as requested

  • Rig items for installation/removal or transport (e.g. transformers, coils, machines, granite or other heavy objects)

  • Position rigged loads to assist heavy equipment operator

  • Setup and teardown regular and tubular scaffolding

  • Set up, tear down and transport items for special events

  • Transport surplus items from various locations and deliver them to Property Disposition

  • Transport hazardous materials

  • Transport electrical cables to underground vaults and ducts for installation by Utilities department

  • Erect barricades and place signals around worksites

  • Proficient in signal calling

Other duties:

  • Operate specialized equipment including: semi-tractor/trailer, box and stake trucks, telescoping and regular fork lifts, aerial lifts, and passenger vehicles

  • Use of specialized equipment required to complete job duties including: hand trucks, dollies, crank-ups, straps, chains, and other moving related equipment

  • Assist DPSS and local Police with special event traffic control

  • Assemble and move lab related equipment within highly critical areas

  • Transport items within the continental United States

  • Transport stock and equipment campus wide

  • Clean assigned area of work and equipment

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver's license CDL-A with Air Brake Endorsement.

  • Must have an acceptable and appropriate driving record; No patterns of unsafe behaviors or safety violations; No major safety violations.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid DOT Medical Certificate; Candidates will be required to pass a DOT Medical Exam prior to hire.

  • Must adhere to the required DOT Drug and Alcohol program; Must pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen. Candidates will be subject to rules regarding Random, Post-Accident, and Reasonable Suspicion testing if hired. 

  • Must be able to pass all required pre-employment screenings, including a background screening, pre-employment drug screening, and pre-employment medical exam. 

  • Must have a valid forklift license or be able to obtain one upon hire. 

  • Commitment to practicing and promoting safety.

  • Ability to adhere to all University/Departmental policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations that apply to the position.

  • Ability to move and maneuver heavy items for an extended period of time throughout the day, including up and down stairs as necessary.

  • Ability to accurately understand and interpret written and printed materials.

  • Ability to clearly communicate with customers; demonstrate knowledge of the Ann Arbor campus environment and map interpretation skills.

  • Ability to perform simple math.

  • Ability to complete all required paperwork, reports, and training as required, including work order notes and vehicle records.

  • Ability to work with a diverse workforce and the University Community,

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to critically think and problem solve both independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability and expectation to support events during off-hours and weekends including support of campus events such as commencement and athletics 

Desired Qualifications*

Possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver's license CDL-A with Air Brake Endorsement AND Hazmat endorsement 

Work Schedule

  • Full-Time: 40 Hours per week. 7:30AM - 4:00PM / Monday-Friday

  • Overtime during after hours and for weekend including university events may be required and is scheduled as needed.
