Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular/Cell Biology, or applied Biomolecular sciences. Able to work with mice.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with advanced independent research including antibody research, cell culture, biochemistry, molecular cloning laboratory activities and techniques for examining microbial pathogenesis.  Experience with murine infection models, polysaccharide purification, antibody purification, techniques such as advanced molecular cloning, gene manipulation and expression techniques, biochemical pathway analysis including metabolomics, advanced microscopy or whole genome analysis.  Publication in peer-reviewed journals (in press or published).

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will lead the investigations on optimizing antibodies for therapy of mice infected with multidrug resistant bacteria. The incumbent will plan and perform the animal experiments, discuss them with the PI and supervise undergraduate and graduate students. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

  • Collect and analyze data: perform cell culture studies, protein quantification and analysis, molecular cloning, RNA quantification, RT-PCR, immunostaining
  • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct in vivo experiments including mouse models of bacterial disease
  • Lab maintenance: lab organization, order lab supplies, library research, and inventory supplies as needed
  • Participate/assist in writing of animal and IRB protocols. Also participate in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
