Summary of Position

The Admissions Counselor will serve as a part of a counselor team who recruit and enroll prospective students into Plymouth State University. This position will focus on undergraduate admission at the Plymouth main campus for undergraduate programs. This position will build professional relationship with prospective students through multiple mediums including phone calls, emails, and other tools geared towards effective relationship management. The position will also evaluate applications and advise students geared towards enrolling more students at Plymouth State University.

  • Bachelor’s degree and one years of related experience
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Computer skills as related to admission process and functions
  • Aptitude to execute a clear and student service-oriented enrollment/recruitment plan to prospective and admitted students, parents, and other constituents
  • Driver’s license, personal transportation, and a willingness to travel and work nights/weekends are required
  • A proven ability to learn new technology and processes with a targeted application for recruitment efforts is required

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Northeast high school markets
  • Knowledge of Slate Recruitment CRM
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit college or university setting a plus

Plan and implement strategic recruiting and outreach strategies and initiatives to attract prospective undergraduate students.

Build effective and meaningful professional relationships with prospective students interested in attending Plymouth State University with a goal of recruiting new students and meeting or exceed territory and overall admission enrollment goals.

Duty/Responsibility

The Admissions Counselor will:
  • Interview and counsel prospective students and/or their parents/family members to explain pertinent admissions policies/procedures.
  • Assist students with admission application completion, financial aid application processes, and on their path to matriculation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with school/institutional counselors and other prospective student advocates within Connecticut and Rhode Island.
  • Maintain a developed territory management process that includes (but is not limited to) reading, reviewing, evaluating, and processing applications for first-year admission, readmission or transfer; rule on admittance within established guidelines; visit post-secondary and secondary schools; attend recruitment fairs, and engage in other recruitment related activities that aim to generate interest of prospective students.
  • Conduct group presentations and individual meetings with prospective students.
  • Participate in the development of admissions policies/procedures.
  • Recruit new students and meet or exceed territory and overall admission enrollment goals.
