Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Journeyman Electrician is directly responsible to the Master Electrician; performs the installation, operation and maintenance of all electrical equipment and systems.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Observes all safety procedures and rules are in compliance with governing authorities.
  2. Prepares list of parts and materials needed for his assigned area of responsibility.
  3. Installs, troubleshoots & maintains electrical equipment, emergency power lighting, fire alarm system, central clock system, security alarm system, etc.
  4. Performs the installation and repair of electrical wiring, fuse boxes, switch panels, electrical fixtures, control equipment, motors, etc.
  5. Ability to properly use measuring equipment such as volt meters, ampere meters, OHMS meters, etc.
  6. Performs preventive maintenance inspection of equipment as per work order.
  7. Ability to troubleshoot, identify and repair electrical circuits and equipment.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Must have the ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English and Spanish.

  • Must have four (4) years of electrical experience installing, operating and maintaining electrical equipment and systems.

  • Valid Texas Driver's License.

Preferred:

  • Journeyman Electrician License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of National Electric Code, electrical power distribution and electrical systems.

Physical Requirements 
Work is performed in a variety of settings.
Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, and at times subject to stooping, crawling, and climbing.
May need to lift heavy objects of up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
May be exposed to a variety of temperatures, noise, moving mechanical parts, or chemicals.
Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to focus.

Work Environment 
Work beyond normal workdays and at various locations that may include the College’s Ft. McIntosh campus;
Works principally in well-lighted and air-conditioned buildings;
Duties require working in dirty areas without air conditioning as well as outside in undesirable weather conditions;
Exposed to noise and vibrations from operating.

Safety 
Required to work safely and follow safety rules.  
Report unsafe working conditions and behavior.
Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

Special Conditions 
Immediate supervisor may assign other duties.  
May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed.
May be required to work at a different college work site or campus as needed.
