Position Summary

University Marketing and Communications seeks to hire an Assistant Director of Email Marketing to join the Online Communications team. Our team is responsible for all aspects of the University’s primary web presence (www.fordham.edu) and many of the most visible sites within the fordham.edu domain, as well as other forms of online communications such as email marketing. We are also responsible for establishing and enforcing online brand standards campus-wide through various content management systems — TerminalFour (fordham.edu), Wordpress (blogs/calendar) and Mailchimp (email). In addition, we serve as consultants for the university community regarding best practices in information architecture, design, accessibility, online communications, and content management.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Online Communications.

Essential Functions

  • Manages robust email marketing calendar.
  • Works closely with other UMC project managers to meet e-communication goals, as well as to help them to better strategize and assess outcomes of their clients’ initiatives.
  • Designs and sends out email marketing campaigns in Mailchimp.
  • Designs and sends out various University newsletters in Mailchimp.
  • Works with web developer to implement template changes when necessary.
  • Tests emails across platforms, sometimes using Litmus.
  • Ensures emails are compliant with all email marketing laws.
  • Reports on email statistics and analyzes data to ensure we are meeting our e-communication goals.
  • Manages email marketing responses.
  • Works closely with technology partners to oversee preparation of e-mail lists, ensure data integrity, and communicate information updates between databases of record and Mailchimp.
  • Improves processes and establishes effectiveness/efficiencies across email strategy and campaigns.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, English, marketing, or related field.
  • Two to three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Experience with web/email publishing platforms such as Wordpress and Mailchimp.
  • Familiar with email marketing best practices.
  • Possesses a mobile first approach to email design.
  • Experience creating online content, both written and visual, with an ear for language and an eye for design.
  • Excellent time management, customer service, organizational, communication, and teamwork skills in order to assist colleagues and the University community.
  • Familiarity with HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and other web content creation tools.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

Minimum Starting Salary: $68,000

Maximum Starting Salary: $85,000

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
