Job Summary

Midland College is seeking a Dean of the Health Sciences Division to provide leadership in a collaborative environment built on mutual respect, innovation, and continuous improvement.  The Division Dean will oversee programs in Associate Degree Nursing, Licensed Vocational Nursing, Health Information Management, Sonography, Radiological Technology, Respiratory Therapy, and the Baccalaureate in Health Services Management.   In addition, the Division Dean will oversee the F. Marie Hall SimLife Center.

Midland College awards certificates, associate degrees and baccalaureate degrees and supports completion through student-centered instruction and student services.  51% of graduates earn a Certificate and/or Applied Associates degree.  An additional 47% of students earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree.  With a 50% Hispanic population, our 5,500 students reflect the demographics of the wider five-county service area.  Thanks to local philanthropy and broad community support, Midland College offers more than 200 local scholarships.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in related field 
Credentials sufficient to qualify to teach in a discipline supervised 
Minimum three years of relevant experience in higher education 
Knowledge of general office equipment including computer, email, fax, copier, and telephone system 
Familiarity with divisional instructional program equipment 
Effectively manage time and priorities in order to meet established deadlines 
Work and communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers and other external contacts 
Detail-oriented and highly organized 
Ability to manage several departments and work cooperatively with staff and students 
Excellent written and verbal skills; leadership skills 
Must possess a valid Texas Driver license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate degree 
Community College experience 
Supervisory and teaching experience

Essential Functions

Recruit, qualify, train, supervise, and evaluate faculty and staff 
Serve on the Curriculum Committee and oversee all curriculum reviews and changes; work with faculty to ensure current and comprehensive curricula 
Develop and approve schedule of courses; ensure that accreditation standards and other quality measures are satisfied 
Revise and approve catalog content 
Evaluate departments and programs 
Participate in strategic planning for instructional area of college 
Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and grants for the division 
Evaluate and make recommendation regarding instructional equipment and facilities 
Serve as a member of the college’s Instructional Administrators 
Serve on committees as assigned 
Recommend new programs when appropriate to meet the college’s mission 
Facilitate communications within the college and between the college and the community 
Promote the philosophy of Midland College to faculty, students, and the community 
Serve as a liaison between faculty/staff and administration 
Oversee the affiliation agreements for the division 
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Instructional Services and President

Physical Demands

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time 
Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds 
Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events 
Use of manual dexterity 
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation 
College and general office setting 
Duties indoors and some outdoors 
Travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town

Pay Statement
