Over the last 10 years, applications to the University of Notre Dame have increased 65% to an all-time high of 28,350 in 2022. This year’s entering class had an acceptance rate of 13%. A decade ago, the acceptance rate was 24.3%. The fall 2022 class is also the most diverse class in the University’s history, with U.S. students of color accounting for 34% of the class; international students requiring visas, 7.2%; and first-generation students and/or from low-income backgrounds, 20%.
This is an exciting time for the Enrollment Division, as it has significant momentum moving into its next strategic period. The division has an experienced team of mission-oriented leaders and colleagues, a new state of the art facility, and bold goals around its student body for the next decade. With strategic priorities that will invest in first generation, lower resourced, and international students and maintain a strong commitment to the University’s strong traditions, the University will continue to amplify its mission as the greatest Catholic research university in the world. Reporting to the Vice President for Undergraduate Enrollment, the Assistant Vice President for Undergraduate Admissions is the strategic leader for first-year, transfer and readmit admissions. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Develops and implements strategies to identify, recruit, and admit all undergraduate students to Notre Dame.
- Serves as a member of the Undergraduate Enrollment senior leadership team and leads approximately 80 individuals, including 30 full time employees, 20 seasonal employees, and 30 student interns.
- Establishes goals, strategies, key performance indicators, and resource deployment necessary to enroll Notre Dame’s first-year class of approximately 2,050 diverse, talented, mission-oriented, and vibrant undergraduate students.
- Collaborates with various campus leaders, including the Deans and Associate Deans of the various colleges and schools, Undergraduate Education, Student Affairs, Athletics, Public Affairs and Communications, etc. to advance the University’s goals, mission, and vision.
- Strategically deploys resources to advance the University’s admissions vision.
- Establishes policies and criteria used for admissions selection.
- Leads the Admissions team with compassion, vision, mission, and empathy.
- Nurtures purposeful relationships with prospective families by implementing a hospitality culture that celebrates every interaction by ensuring a kind, compassionate, service, and mission oriented experience that celebrates the spirit of Notre Dame.
- Leads a strategy for enhancing the preparedness of prospective students; with an emphasis on breaking cycles of poverty by engaging Catholic high schools and organizations that display fidelity to school mission and operational vitality. Through this leadership, the University will build a greater pool of college bound Catholic scholars and enhance college preparedness of young people across America.
- Develops and implements a strategy to recruit bright, mission-oriented students across the globe so that the University may continue to elevate its distinctive mission of being the University where global Catholic scholars are formed.
- Serves as a mission oriented leader and representative of the University to prospective students and their families, alumni, trustees, donors, and other external constituents.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s
- 7 or more years
- Minimum of 7 years successful employment in higher education.
- Successful candidates must illustrate a strong understanding, respect, and commitment to Notre Dame’s Catholic mission, and the enthusiasm to integrate this mission into the admissions program.
- Strategic planning, executive leadership, and communication skills are expected.
- Candidates should also have deep understanding of national and global higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong preference for candidates with experience in higher education enrollment.
