GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Financial Aid Coordinator is an integral member of the Financial Aid Office. This position is responsible for the delivery of financial aid services to students and the interpretation of and compliance with federal and state programs. Specifically, the Coordinator responsibilities will include Direct Loan processing, MA state grant programs, R2T4 withdrawal recalculations, and Federal Work Study, file evaluation, packaging, adjustments and SAP. This position requires a thorough knowledge of financial aid topics including federal need analysis, cost of attendance, award packaging, types of aid, fund management, satisfactory academic progress, and flexibility understanding financial aid policy. The Coordinator must be comfortable using technology including financial aid processing systems.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Enthusiastically provide financial counseling to prospective and current students via multiple formats including remote/virtual, telephone, in person, or by email in all facets of financial aid including how to apply for aid, the status of aid applications and documents, the criteria for various financial aid funds, and ways to manage the cost of a 4Cs education.
  • Collaboratively process student financial aid applications, assess and verify financial aid files for eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid.
  • Originate, maintain, disburse, and reconcile federal Direct Loans.
  • Certify, disburse, and reconcile MA state grant programs.
  • Coordinate the federal and state financial aid programs including all aspects of Direct Loan processing and certification; develop risk prevention programs as part of default management, oversees the loan reconciliation process with Student Accounts.
  • Develop and coordinate federal work-study program to ensure student and supervisor participation; provide oversight of compliance, training for supervisors and on-going support for the work-study program.
  • Use College technology and software daily including Jenzabar, PowerFaids, MS Office (particularly Excel and Outlook). Use federal and state financial aid processing applications such as COD, NSLDS, EdConnect, and MassAid.
  • Ensure collaboration and communication with Financial Aid staff, Enrollment Management, and other departments.
  • Comfortably apply frequently changing regulations, procedures, and Financial Aid policies.
  • Apply a solutions-focused approach to troubleshooting when working individually with students and families during the financial aid process through a variety of formats. Assist students with securing detailed information and forms and researching inquiries before escalating to the director.
  • Maintain confidential student information in compliance with FEPRA.
  • Assist with the oversight of Satisfactory Academic Progress and related appeals. Manage campus-wide collaboration on education regarding SAP and assist with the implementation of interventions to increase retention.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge of financial aid and student services.
  • Other duties as assigned by director.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in financial aid or closely related student service; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in student services and strong commitment to quality student service to faculty, staff, students, and other constituents.
  • Ability to balance a distributed work environment independently and in a team-based atmosphere.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to de-escalate difficult conversations when addressing student financial aid.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of the student population.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience working within a college setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial aid loan processing.
  • Experience using PowerFaids to process financial aid.
  • Experience using Federal Student Aid applications including COD, EdConnect, NSLDS, and MassAid.

Additional Information:


COMPENSATION
: Full-time MCCC/MTA Unit Position, Coordinator Financial Aid (Grade 6) with annual salary range of $64,615 - $84,909. Actual salary will be consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program.
