Job Summary

The Dean of Student Life provides leadership, oversight, and direction for all aspects of student life, Title IX compliance, and basic student needs. In addition, the Dean contributes significantly to strategic planning, facility and budget management, staff supervision, and the development of a safe, healthy, inclusive learning environment for the Midland community.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum of three years experience in educational administration
Prior supervisory and management experience of several areas/departments
Work in a team environment with multiple, sometimes changing priorities
Effectively manage time and priorities to meet deadlines
Detail-oriented and highly organized
Familiar with policy formation and implementation
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of college experience
Experience in compliance, judicial affairs or college/university housing

Essential Functions

Responsible for administrative and programmatic oversight and coordination of Student Life, Title IX, and Special Populations
Serve as the judicial affairs officer for Midland College, facilitating the reporting of student conduct complaints, conducting investigations, adjudicating as needed, and ensuring that student conduct is administered in a fair, impartial, non-adversarial, restorative, and educational manner
Direct and oversee updates to and revisions for the Student Rights and Responsibilities (catalog and student handbook), Campus Housing Regulations, and Student Activities handbook
Maintain appropriate records, applying retention and expungement procedures for all areas relating to the Dean’s Office
Advance Midland College’s commitment to gender equity under Title IX and ensure the College complies with Title IX in all its programs and activities
Build collaboration among the offices and programs that report to the Dean
Provide leadership in student emergency situations, including serving as a contact for parents
Regularly attend activities and events on campus (including those occurring after traditional College hours)
Oversee the annual budget and appropriately allocate resources
Develop and oversee programs to support student basic needs
Oversee the TimelyCare health program
Supervise the development, implementation, and assessment of goals, objectives, and measurements for each department in accordance with Midland College’s mission and strategic priorities
Participate actively with Pathways Committee and sub-committees as appropriate
Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Services

Physical Demands

Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
The person in this position needs to frequently move or drive from office to other locations on and off-campus
Must be able to work extended hours during periods of registration and Midland College or community events
Work mostly performed indoors; some outdoor Midland College or community events may be required
Work both on-campus and off-campus
Travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town may be required
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
Use of manual dexterity
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Min Salary

$77,000 per year (annualized salary)

Max Salary

$82,000 per year (annualized salary)

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
