Position Description

The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has an immediate educator position available at the Dolan DNALC in Cold Spring Harbor. The DNALC is the largest provider of biotechnology instruction at the precollege level in the United States, operating 13 teaching laboratories in Cold Spring Harbor, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Sleepy Hollow. Each year 30,000 students conduct hands-on experiments at a DNALC or receive intensive lab instruction from DNALC staff at their schools. We are looking for a dynamic, engaging educator to join our team. 

Position Responsibilities


Responsibilities will include:
· providing hands-on genetics and molecular biology instruction to pre-college students
attending academic year field trips and summer camps;
· presenting public tours;
· delivering in-school instruction;
· assisting with extended student research projects;
· conducting teacher training; and
· developing lab-based curricula.

Position Requirements


Strong candidates will have teaching experience and a background in biology. New York State teaching certification is a plus, but not required. Postdoctoral scientists who would like to pursue teaching careers are also encouraged to apply. The position demands a motivated self-starter – with excellent writing, computer, and communication skills – who can work independently and as part of a team. Flexible scheduling will require some weekend work. Occasional travel between DNALC facilities and to local schools may be required for training or instruction.
Required education: Undergraduate degree in biology or related field
Required experience: 1-3 years
