Position Highlights

The Soil Health Research and Extension team at The University of Arizona is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in soil biogeochemistry research under diverse climatic conditions. The soil health research and extension program seeks ‘real-world’ solutions to soil health challenges in the desert and uses multidisciplinary approaches and tools to measure soil health changes in commercial farms/ranches. The program also actively participates in education and outreach activities to share research knowledge with the stakeholders. The incumbent will coordinate all aspects of research and extension and will work independently and collaboratively with diverse programs under the supervision of Dr. Debankur Sanyal.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Planning, initiating, coordinating, and managing field and greenhouse experiments and lab incubations
  • Running soil health assays, designing new protocols, and managing the soil health lab
  • Using equipment and tools as required for research and demonstration of technologies
  • Participating in research meetings and contributing to and leading group discussions.
  • Supervising undergraduate and graduate students working in the soil health lab, under the soil health research and extension
  • Publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at relevant conferences.
  • Authoring extension reports and articles for educational purposes
  • Organizing and moderating extension and outreach events
  • Collaborating with the PI on developing novel research ideas and drafting proposals to seek extramural funding
  • Applying for independent funding and contributing to grant proposals submitted by the PI
  • Establishing, securing, and maintaining active communication with the stakeholders and industry
  • Participating in general management of the soil health research and extension program led by Dr. Debankur Sanyal
Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. in Soil Science, Agronomy or Plant Science within the past five years (60 months) or upon hire.
  • Experience with field and greenhouse experimentation
  • Experience with soil processing, and analyses
  • Experience in running general lab instruments used in a soil analytical lab
  • Experience with statistical analyses using R or Python
  • Experience in handling and organizing large, complex datasets
  • Experience with precision agricultural technologies like sensors, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with machine learning approaches
  • Experience with numerical modeling
  • Experience with Remote Sensing tools and software
  • Demonstrated experience with GIS software like ArcGIS, etc.
