Position Highlights The Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Arizona is seeking a highly motivated Surgical Research Resident for a 2 year laboratory fellowship. The candidate will provide scholarly collaboration, productive research, and mentoring experiences on exciting research projects. The candidate will be responsible for developing experiments to test specific hypotheses, performing in vitro and in vivo experiments, data collection and synthesis of publications and scientific presentations. This person will also train, supervise, and support professional and student personnel in the lab. The ideal candidate will be a categorical surgery resident in their 2nd or 3rd year who wishes to spend 2 years in research. Alternatively, specific exceptions for post-doctoral PhD fellows will be made. In addition to their own project/experimental procedures, the candidate is required to work with other lab members and assist with their own projects. The primary purpose of this appointment is to engage in advanced research training. Their job will focus on contributing to the research initiatives of the department under the principal investigator/mentor's mentorship and interaction with collaborators.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Planning, developing, and supporting translational basic and clinical research studies and inspired mentoring while ensuring the research program operates in compliance with regulatory agency guidelines. Projects are both independent and in collaborations with faculty members and multilevel trainees within the Department of Surgery.
  • Coordinate and manage research data collection and collation for publications, reports and scientific presentations.
  • Will develop new techniques/technologies and train students in these skills.
  • Oversee teaching and supervision of residents, research associates, medical students, undergraduate, and high school students performing research in the lab.
  • Manage research collaborations.
  • Writing and review of research proposals.
  • Assistance in grant preparation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD by the start date and 1-3 years of experience at Postdoc rank. 
Preferred Qualifications * 2nd or 3rd year surgical resident.
