Description

The Postdoctoral Fellowship in Trauma-Informed Schools is a grant-funded position within the Coalition for Compassionate Schools , a National Child Traumatic Stress Category II Treatment and Service Adaptation Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The project is directed by Stacy Overstreet, PhD, and supported by co-project director Courtney Baker, PhD, as well as nine city and community agencies. The mission of the Coalition is to support transformative change in schools as they implement and sustain healing-centered, trauma-informed multi tiered systems of support to improve the psychological, behavioral, and educational outcomes of youth exposed to trauma and to prevent new exposure in schools. The Postdoctoral fellow will work as part of the team to provide the structure and tools for school-wide action planning for the adoption of healing-centered, trauma-informed approaches. The ideal candidate will have experience engaging Black and African American families, school personnel, and community stakeholders. The fellow will work with school partners to provide professional development related to trauma-informed and healing-centered approaches, introduce needs assessment tools, assist in the collection and analysis of the data, and facilitate discussion within the leadership team in the creation of an action plan.  The fellow will also have the opportunity to contribute to and lead conference presentations and publications. The position can be designed to prepare fellows for licensure in psychology and/or careers in academia.

 

The ideal start date is May 2023.  Appointment is for one year with additional years possible based on review of the fellow’s progress. The starting stipend for the first year is $61,992 with a 2.5% cost of living increase each additional year. Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Doctoral degree in clinical, developmental, educational, or school psychology or in social work, education, public health or related discipline by the position start date. Candidates with at least two years of experience in the development and delivery of professional development trainings and consultation in schools are especially encouraged to apply.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

 

  • Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and demonstrated evidence of the ability to manage multiple projects with high accuracy in a high pressure, deadline-regulated environment.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; capable of effectively communicating to a variety of audiences.

  • An understanding of the prevalence and impact of trauma on youth and trauma-informed, healing-centered approaches in schools.

  • An understanding of structural racism and its relation to health and academic disparities and a commitment to racial equity and social justice.

  • An understanding of systems within schools as related to staff development, climate, and multi tiered systems of mental and behavioral health supports.

  • Experience convening educators and education leadership.

  • Experience in school-based research, including data collection and management related to process evaluations.

  • Skills to maintain records in an accurate and timely fashion.

  • Skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships within the schools.
