Position Highlights The Department of Anesthesiology is currently searching for a Researcher/Scientist III to conduct controlled investigations and experiments. The ideal candidate for the Ibrahim lab should possess a strong background in Neuroscience/Pain research and be committed to advancing scientific knowledge. The primary focus of this role is to collaborate with lab personnel in the development of innovative pain therapies. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform independent research experiments to further existing research programs and grants, which includes:
    - Surgical procedures (pSNL, Brennan surgery, SNL, catheter implantation).
    - Behavioral testing of multiple animal models, including pain models (chronic and acute), anxiety (SPS), Alzheimer's (J20).
    - Behavioral assays like Von Frey and Hargreaves tests, EPM, FST, Water Maze, NOR.
    - Protein expression analysis using western blot, HPLC.
    - Gene transfection.
    - PCR.
    - Immunohistochemical approaches, and image acquisition/quantification.
    - Calcium imaging.
  • Participate in the collaborative design, completion, and problem solving of innovative pain therapies research projects.
  • Develop research protocols, and review and edit current protocols to ensure coherence, completeness, and consistency.
  • Assist in formulating research mehtods and developing research criteria.
  • Share supervisory and mentoring responsibilities to guide the work of others, including research technical staff, graduate, and undergraduate students. Regularly meet and instruct lab trainees on the use of research equipment and research methods. Set SOPs for the lab.
  • Maintain laboratory records, including detailing results of experiments. Tabulate research data, analyze research results, and keep a detailed, easy to understand laboratory notebook. Prepare analysis for research reports, including documenting findings and procedures used.
  • Participate or author manuscripts and articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals, books, or chapter publications. 
  • Present talks, posters, and research findings at laboratory meetings, national, and international conferences.
  • Participate in the acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing grant proposals in compliance with research granting agencies and internal and external regulators. Prepare documentation and provide technical expertise for proposals.
  • Contribute to maintaining regulatory compliance, including writing and submitting IACUC and IRB protocols.
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, including proper training and certification to handle and dispose of sensitive bio-safety materials, maintain and service lab equipment, organize lab and implement procedures, manage the ordering of laboratory equipment and supplies, and respond to administrative requests and procedures.
  • Participate in weekly laboratory meetings. This will include presenting analyzed data and discussing future downstream experiments.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with other members of the Arizona pain anesthesiology research group.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience is required. 
Preferred Qualifications* PhD in Biology or a closely related field, as well as at least three years of experience as a postdoctoral fellow.
* Previous experience working in a Pharmacology Department and a proven track record of publishing high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals.
* Expertise in cellular culture, western blotting, ELISA, microscopy, HPLC, and PCR techniques will be considered a major asset.
* The successful candidate should be knowledgeable in these areas and able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in their application.
