We are searching for someone to join our dynamic team who shares the same passion and mission. We are looking for an Outreach Specialist for our Department of Film, Television, and Theatre (FTT).
Who we are: The Department of Film, Television, and Theatre (FTT) provides a liberal arts approach to the study of film, television, and theatre. Our program offers a unique mix of design and production, writing and performance, history and theory. In having film, television and theatre in one department, we prepare students for the real world where actors, directors, writers, and other artists frequently move between and among these different entertainment spheres.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The main function of the Outreach Specialist is to independently manage all department outreach activities, focusing primarily on marketing, event coordination, and developing new outreach activities for the department. FTT has numerous activities and events each year that are open to the university at large and the general public theatre season productions, film festivals, staged readings, student productions/lab theatres, community outreach in regional schools and/or local arts organizations, workshops, and lectures.
In addition to writing effective publicity information, someone in this position will be responsible for the target marketing of our public events, promoting FTT activities, and recruiting students to the FTT major. This includes sending information to appropriate google groups and the campus Communications Office; preparing the bi-weekly newsletter; posting information on FTT and related web sites; developing/printing posters, programs, and fliers; overseeing flier/poster distribution; coordinating the strategic use of social media; and serving as liaison to the Campus Communicators. The Outreach Specialist also externally works as needed with other campus event coordinators, community arts related organizations, and media as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Theatre Publicity management In cooperation with FTT Theatre Committee, manage publicity of Theatre events, including mainstage productions, musical theatre, student theatre productions and festivals, and other theatrical events. Responsibilities vary per event but may include:
- Writing publicity and disseminating it throughout campus via appropriate google groups and email, Communication Office, campus calendars, websites, and social media;
- Overseeing design work of student assistants; overseeing the design, printing and distribution of posters/fliers throughout campus; editing and distributing student theatre and film casting calls/auditions to appropriately related email lists and the FTT web site;
- Marketing and advertising events off campus via radio, print, and/or social media
- Liaising with the DPAC box office for complimentary tickets and holds
- Ensuring that tickets are available in box office and on DPAC website; arranging for performance rights and script ordering for plays
- Writing media publicity releases; attending staff and production meetings
- Managing Theatre ND and Theatre Enthusiasts email lists
- Managing the archival recording and photography of theatre events and publicity photos
- Maintaining the script library
Department events publicity management In cooperation with FTT Chair and faculty, manage publicity of talks, workshops, conferences, book launches and symposia. These include:
- Writing publicity and disseminating it throughout campus via appropriate google groups and email, Communication Office, campus calendars, websites, and social media
- Overseeing design work of student assistants
- Overseeing the design, printing and distribution of posters/fliers throughout campus
- Attending staff meetings.
Management of departmental communication channels
- Works in conjunction with the Communication Office to develop the annual Behind the Scenes newsletter
- Writes and submits updated information for FTT web site, archival websites (theatre chronology, FTT Film Festival, etc.), digital signage, bi-weekly newsletter, social media, and department listings for online calendars
Community outreach
- Develops new outreach strategies for the department that will help spread the departments mission and goals, including outreach to local schools and/or arts organizations or other entities
Recruitment of new majors
- Handles all promotional events for the major on campus (Majors Night, Freshmen Orientation, Junior Parents Weekend, Art Attack, FTT Passport, etc.)
- Develops new strategies for informing students about the major in order to recruit majors
- Develops new strategies to advertise specific FTT courses and faculty to stimulate enrollment

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree (4 years) and 3-4 years of experience (equivalent relevant experience may substitute for a degree)
- Experience working in Public relations, marketing, fundraising or similar outreach skills or Arts administration in either an academic department or a non-profit arts organization
- Excellent organizational skills, high level of attention to detail, ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines, excellent oral and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading, and graphic design.
- Must be proficient in computer skills and able to work with a number of standard software programs such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Due to level of confidential material, a commitment to confidentiality is essential.
