Job Summary

  • Assists the Associate Vice President of Facilities and acts for and represents the Associate Vice President in his/her absence.
  • Directs and supervises the work of 6+ staff members and second level oversight of the activities and responsibilities of 50+ staff members to ensure that departmental and College needs, goals, expectations, and standards are met in the following areas: Customer Service Department, Facility Managers (and associated support staff), and special projects as assigned.
  • Works with various departments within Facilities Services to ensure all physical facility assets are cared for cost-effectively, and in a way that optimizes the asset life cycle and meets the needs of end-users and key stakeholders.
  • Provides comprehensive training to Facility Managers and ensures expectations are met.
  • Assists in developing, updating and ensuring compliance of policies, procedures, standards and documentation processes.
  • Addresses and manages critical issues impacting facilities employee’s ability to perform their job functions effectively.
  • Develops, builds, maintains and (when necessary) repairs relationships with end-user groups at every SLCC Campus except Redwood/Taylorsville (which will be directed by the Director of Plant Operations & Redwood Campus). These two positions work together to create alignment in their campus management approach so that efforts are reasonably unified and standardized.
  • Works collaboratively with accounting and budget office to assist AVP of FS in tracking and managing budgets.
  • Performs cost, trend and performance analysis of proposed work and ongoing work.
  • Manages KPI’s across Facilities Services Division. Analyzes and provides executive summary reports from large data sets.
  • Identifies opportunities for and spearheads continuous improvement projects.
  • Assists in day-to-day operational decision making by taking on projects and tasks assigned by the AVP of FS.
  • Supports the strategic plan of Facilities Services.
  • Works under broad direction.
  • Full accountability for own technical work or project/supervisory responsibilities.
  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives.
  • Establishes own milestones, team objectives and delegates assignments.
  • Work is often self-initiated. Influences organization, customers, and peers within industry on contribution of specialization.
  • Significant responsibility for the work of others and for the allocation of resources.

This is an at-will position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Construction Management, Business Management or a related field
  • 5-7+ years’ experience in facility management.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for extensive travel to and from all campus locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EFP and/or CEFP Credentials through APPA.
  • Master’s Degree.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Organizational and managerial skills for multiple activities and processes concurrently.
  • Ability to operate effectively under stress.
  • Must have excellent human relations skills.
  • Must have knowledge and expertise in building systems.
  • Must have working knowledge of Building Codes, Fire Codes, and the laws, rules and regulations of the State of Utah. Knowledge of Federal regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, ADA, etc.
  • Must be experienced in facility management and project management, preferably in a college setting.
  • Must be computer literate; i.e., ability to interact through e-mail systems and computer programs including, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Must have effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to identify and handle details.
  • Ability to work with confidential information.
  • Ability to supervise and train others.
  • Possess strong leadership.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation in applying solutions.
  • Foster the development of new and emerging innovations and systems in the facilities industry.
  • Develop and implement internal operational policies and procedures.
  • Encourage, support, and promote the technical and professional development of staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
