Job Summary

Community and School Outreach is an initiative of the Community Relations Office. Our goal is to make post-secondary education, and Salt Lake Community College specifically, an accessible and attainable goal for the communities we serve. We do this by increasing SLCC visibility in our communities, building an understanding of the importance of postsecondary education, and providing information about how to access SLCC programs and resources.
As an outreach specialist, you are a passionate, high energy, and outgoing individual who is excited to connect with people of all ages, backgrounds, and socioeconomic status around post-secondary education issues.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Tasks include:
  • Research upcoming events in SLCC’s service area
  • Gather/develop material from across the college of interest to schools and communities
  • Perform administrative and clerical functions, including such as responding to inquiries from community leaders and schools, scheduling events, data entry, spreadsheets and other functions as assigned
  • Develop, teach, and adapt outreach activities and presentations to school and community groups
  • Travel to k-10 schools and various community locations (fairs and festivals) for event set-up, staffing, and break-down at locations across Salt Lake County
  • Serve as a positive role model to younger students
  • Develop and maintain appropriate college and community relationships
  • Participate in professional development sessions as requested and able

Minimum Qualifications

  • Skilled in Microsoft suite
  • Interested in communication, marketing, and/or community outreach and engagement
  • Available to work up to 10 hours per week, including day, night, and weekend events
  • Must have driving license and transportation or successfully meet SLCC requirements to use SLCC motor pool vehicles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in a second language
