Position Summary

Urban Alliance is seeking a College and Career Services Manager (CCSM) to implement the work of providing alumni from the region with the skills, career exposure, networking, and support needed to prepare them for success and expand their access to economic opportunities. The CCSM will work closely with the Director of National College and Career Services to execute the organization’s alumni programming and be responsible for providing supports and services to keep students connected to post-secondary education, training, and/or a living wage career with growth potential. They will provide case management, college and career coaching, and skill development opportunities to accelerate alumni on their path to a career or college success. The College and Career Manager will report to the Sr. Director of Programs and Partnerships.

We are nationally recognized for having 25 years of unique and valuable experience creating successful and supportive internship experiences for young adults with large and small employers across several industries in our regions-the Greater Washington, DC area, Baltimore, Chicago, and Detroit. Our programs are bridging the gap between education and the workforce by opening the doors for high school students to receive essential skills training, access career-readiness opportunities, digital literacy training, individualized mentoring, and ongoing post-high school planning support.

Job Responsibilities

Engagement and Communication

  • Create regional engagement strategy based on the population
  • Plan and coordinate local networking opportunities, professional learning sessions, and special events (e.g. Alumni reunion, trainings, community service events, etc.)
  • Consistently conduct alumni communications using newsletters, social media, LinkedIn group, and the alumni portal
  • Manage the regional Alumni Advisory Board
  • Provide monthly touch points for all alumni two years post high school
  • Actively recruit recent Alumni and Baltimore City High School graduates for opportunities

College and Career Services

  • Provide direct support and service to Alumni (school transfer / enrollment, resume writing, cover letter writing, job searching, career counseling, interview preparation, etc.)
  • Provide active career support and direct service for 30 alumni interns
  • Facilitate monthly workshops and foundational skills training for 30 alumni interns
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, employers, including local colleges and universities, scholarship providers, and service/workforce programs
  • Work with regional Executive Director enhance the internship opportunities provided to Alumni year-round and seasonally.
  • Provide a wide array of appropriate resources on careers, technical schools, apprenticeship, and training programs
  • Create and implement outreach plan to recruit Urban Alliance Alumni to engage in college and career readiness activities
  • Provide case management services to alumni who are not connected to education or living wage work.

High School Internship Program Support and Transition

  • Serve as the expert in regional post-high school choices and financial aid options
  • Cultivate a relationship with the current class of High School Interns
  • Assist Program Coordinators with the Post High School Planning intervention planning
  • Assist program teams with intern’s transition to alumni status

Data Management & Program Evaluation

  • Ensure that alumni data in Salesforce is high quality and entered on a regular basis
  • Track and monitor alumni program success metrics
  • Support the development and execution of program surveys
  • Conduct follow-up in accordance with any grants/contracts in the region

Qualifications & Keys to Success

Alumni Services Experience: The ideal candidate has a proven track record of excellence and commitment in career services, alumni services, and/or youth development and a passion for the Urban Alliance mission. They will have a degree and/or certification (or extensive demonstrated experience) in career services, career counseling, and or counseling experience of at least two years. They will be committed to remaining current on national trends and research as well are opportunities in the region to ensure that the alumni program is effective and meeting the needs of our alumni. They will be proficient with using data systems and existing data to inform practice and monitor progress toward goals.

Relationship Builder: The ideal candidate will be collaborative, authentic, and genuine. They will have demonstrated experience building relationships across the Detroit region, workforce readiness programs, higher education institutions, and local service providers. The ideal candidate will be a good listener and will be committed to removing barriers to participation.

Communication Skills: The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and possess strong writing, listening, and speaking skills. The candidate will leverage their strong interpersonal skills and use variety of modes of communication to connect with employees across our regions. Use of technology will be a critical avenue to provide information to the team who often will not be available at the same time. Using a variety of techniques to adapt to schedules and keep everyone engaged will be important.

Compensation and Benefit Package

At Urban Alliance one of our core values is taking care of each other, and this includes offering competitive benefits, paid time off, and options for remote work. The total compensation package for this position is between $ 55,000 - $65,000. In addition to having paid time off between December 25th and January 1st, we provide 18 days of paid time off (PTO), 5 days of sick leave, plus 10 paid federal holidays, as well as birthday and diversity paid holidays. Additional PTO days are provided to staff after three years. Depending on the calendar, additional paid closure days and early closure days are established each year. Our benefits include a comprehensive health plan with 90% individual healthcare coverage for employees, coverages for spouses and family, 403(B) retirement plans with a 3% match, flexible spending accounts for dependent and health care, whole life insurance and pre-tax commuter benefits. In addition, depending on responsibilities. Work hours and location are determined based on the work to allow for both flexibility and work-life balance. This position is based in Washington DC but will be partially remote. Time in the office versus remote will be based on the responsibilities and will be determined collaboratively.
